It is always a challenge to experiment with artistic tools in photo editing programs. There are so many options within each tool and the final outcome is solely based on personal preference. Thought I would give it try and share the results! On the left is the original photograph taken in Pienza, Italy. It is a charming little town with many different little shops. The one on the right is the edited version. Editing was done using Topaz Studio 2, Nik Collection, and Photoshop Elements 21 to fine tune lighting and sharpening.
Flower Photography – Editing in Topaz Studio 2
Recently my photography focus has been on shooting flowers and creatively altering them. I discovered a very fun program called Topaz Studio 2. Thought I would share. It allows you to use a variety of tools to artistically create with presets, filters, and textures. Here are a couple of samples of the first two images I edited in the program. It also works as a plugin for Luminar, Photoshop, and Photoshop Elements.
Photography – Abstract Sailboats
f/32; 1/15 sec.; ISO-100; 42mm
This photo was taken in San Francisco down by the pier. The reflections in the water were perfect that day to try some camera movement shots.
Photography – Impressionism – Abstract
f/5.6; 1/100 sec; ISO-800; 60mm
The Chicago Botanic Gardens offered an abstract photography class so I decided to enroll. Discovered that the best take away from this class was it pushed me to think outside the “box”. The above photo is a flower placed on a tree trunk mushroom ledge. With a little camera movement when the shot was taken, this was the result.
“Nothing can dim the light that shines from within.” Maya Angelou.
“A flower blossoms for its own joy.” Oscar Wilde
Flower Photography – Extension Tubes
Both photos were taken with a Sony A6000 camera with a Canon 60mm Macro Lens and Neewer 10 mm extension tube; f/2.8; 1/125 sec; ISO-100
This summer I have really been focusing on flower photography using my Sony Lensbaby lens and a Canon Macro Lens on my Sony A6000. Today I decided to add a 10mm extension tube to get in a little closer. This was the result.
Bird Photography – Reflections
“The love you feel in life is a reflection of the love you feel in yourself.” Deepak Chopra
Although Canadian Geese are quite plentiful where I live and can be photographed almost any day, they are still one of my favorite things to photograph in the water. On a calm overcast day, the reflections are wonderful.
Flower Photography – Lensbaby
Sony a6000; Lensbaby Sol 45; 1/200 Sec; ISO 250
I bought this lens a year ago and was really frustrated with the results of my photography sessions. No matter how I adjusted the lens or bokeh blades my photos left a lot to be desired. Yet many photographs taken by others with this lens were amazing. Why theirs and not mine?
Initially, we were not a good fit. The whole purpose of the Lensbaby is to create soft, dreamy photographs. I am someone who strives to create clear, sharp photographs. I suddenly realized when using this lens I was just shooting to shoot. So I set out to create one really sharp area in an image and let the rest just happen through adjusting the bokeh blades. Much happier with the results and this lens has become a whole lot of fun!
Mobile Photography & Editing
This photo was taken with an Iphone 6 and processed with the mobile app Snapseed. The app allows you to mask, add layers through the double exposure tool and edit your photo with a variety tools that most computer software programs offer. It will also process RAW photos.
If you are looking to have some fun on the run, I would recommend taking the time to learn this app!
